Limecode facelift
Hi all
I’m in the process of starting something new and fresh here, and updating the content, look, an software powering limecode.com. This is a current and running project, and probably the best way to get some momentum behind this site. I hope you enjoy the new look. While I don’t have the patience for in-depth template design, the layout of the site will work well.
A few features of the new digs:
- A fully featured photo blog. I’m a bit hesitant to get into Flickr full on, and since there are mighty photoblog tools available for me to use, I’ve decided to ween myself off of Flickr and make sure that my stuff stays in my own hands. I’ve gone ahead and rolled out “Yet Another Wordpress Photoblogger” and so far it’s coming together well
- I’ve been tossing around the idea of some radio work with friends of mine, and obviously, podcasting is a great way to distribute any audio content. I’ve located and installed an excellent flash-based player, so I can embed radio shows and other audio snippets right into the site.
Quite simply I got really tired of Movable Type. Great community, interesting interface, but making things work the way I wanted to required a lot more research and tweaking then I had hoped would be required. Templates broke, the results of publishing the site were unpredictable, and I had to write some code just to get the thing rolling. Those of you that know me know I have no problem getting my hands dirty, but I didn’t expect to have to open the hood just to do a left turn.
While it’s a bit annoying being trapped in anybody’s User Interface sandbox, everything I’ve wanted to get working in Wordpress has just worked as written. Joomla and other content management may be down the road, but it’s going to take a while to run into the limitations of Wordpress. Great job guys.
